Road to Germany
ONA Academy’s Annual Competition

“Road to Germany” is a project conducted by the Goethe-Institut Cairo and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. Since 2013, the Goethe-Institut Cairo along with the ONA Academy organizes this project. The aim of the project is to strengthen the professional and cultural exchange and to support young Egyptian journalists in different Media sectors by offering them a real exposure to several German Media institutions and a direct contact to German prominent Media figures. All ONA Academy graduates are eligible to apply to the “Road to Germany” competition and the winners are awarded a study trip for one week in Berlin, organized by the Goethe-Institut Cairo and granted by the German Federal Foreign Office.

“About Her” is the topic of “Road to Germany” competition 2017 in its fourth version. Each group is requested to make a feature report of 5 minutes “About Her” storytelling about Egyptian Women, in present, in past or in history, in weal or in woe, distinguished or marginalized, about their status, their rights, their dreams and ambitions and the challenges they are facing. By sharing their stories, we wish to find and share common grounds, hope and a meaning of life.

Terms and Conditions

All ONA Academy graduates from May 2013 (since the foundation of ONA Academy) to May 2017 are eligible to apply to the “Road to Germany” competition organized by ONA Academy in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut.
Only 40 participants will be selected upon specific criteria defined by both the ONA Academy and the Goethe-Institut, and then divided into 4 groups of 10 participants.
“About Her” is the topic of the “Road to Germany” competition 2017 in its fourth version. Each of the 4 groups are requested to make a feature report of 5 minutes “About Her” storytelling about Egyptian Women, in present, in past or in history, in weal or in woe, distinguished or marginalized, about their status, their rights, their dreams and ambitions and the challenges they are facing. By sharing their stories, we wish to find and share common grounds, hope and a meaning of life.
Application deadline: 14th of May, 2017
Announcement of the final list of the 40 participants: 25th of May, 2017
Duration of the competition: 10 days, from 1st of June to 10th of June 2017
The applicants should be available and present during the 10 days of the competition. Each one should be committed to participate in all the competition activities and should respect the team work.
All the participants are subjected to a daily evaluation by the Academy team, including their performance, their commitment and their cooperation with the other group members.
After the competition ends, the four projects will be evaluated by a jury of German and Egyptian media experts, who will decide about the winning project.
The members of the winning group will be awarded a study trip of one week to Berlin, granted by the Goethe-Institut and supported by the German Foreign Office.
